Job Summary
The Director of Business Development is responsible for:
Participating in the design and execution of a comprehensive development strategy
Executing various fundraising campaigns in partnership with external consultants, CIUW staff and the CIUW President and CEO
Managing the CIUW donor database to ensure the integrity of the data and to enable CIUW staff and leadership to utilize the data effectively
Aligning CIUW’s gift and pledge processing with the donor database and manage the gift/donation acknowledgment process
Independently identifying development opportunities and assisting in the execution of strategies to capitalize on those opportunities
Providing management reports at each Board of Directors meeting and as needed to update the Development Working Group and the President and CEO on the progress of development activities
Supporting all CIUW revenue channels such as events, major campaigns and workplace initiatives
Supervising interns as needed
Desired Skills and Experience
Track record of performing well against measurable goals
Background in a metrics-driven environment such as development, sales or marketing
Demonstrated ability to meet or exceed “sales” targets
Talent for managing existing (donor) relationships and cultivating new (donor) relationships
Extensive experience with customer relationship management tools such as Salesforce
Exceptional communication skills
Ability to translate the mission of the Cape and Islands United Way in a unique and meaningful way to individual donors and local businesses
Communication style that is both empathetic and confident • History of presenting information to large groups or of public speaking
Experience creating written presentations that express facts and concepts clearly and concisely
Commitment to precision
Proactive and detail-oriented in terms of workflow processes and controls
Ability to work closely with the President and CEO, the Board Treasurer, the accounting team to reconcile gift records and ensure data accuracy
Experience analyzing demographic and market trends in order to identify areas opportunity
