Emergency Response Resources
When an emergency threatens our region, preparation and access to trusted resources can make all the difference. Cape & Islands United Way is here to connect residents with critical support before, during, and after the storm.
Taking steps now can help keep you and your loved ones safe.
Build an emergency kit:
Water (1 gallon per person per day, at least 3 days)
Non-perishable food
Flashlights and extra batteries
First aid kit and medications
Phone chargers and backup power sources
Important documents in a waterproof container
Make a plan:
Know your evacuation route
Identify a safe place to stay if you need to leave your home
Check in with neighbors, especially older adults or those needing extra support
Stay informed:
Monitor local weather or news updates
Follow guidance from local emergency management officials
In the event of an emergency, shelters will be opened across Cape Cod, Martha’s Vineyard, and Nantucket.
What to know:
Shelter locations will be announced by local officials
Bring essential items (medications, clothing, important documents)
Some shelters may accept pets—check in advance for details
