Christine Menard, the executive director of the Family Pantry of Cape Cod, is being recognized for her work with the Community Spirit award presented by the Cape and Islands United Way, a nonprofit organization on a mission to improve lives by mobilizing the caring power of our communities to advance the common good on Cape Cod, Martha’s Vineyard, and Nantucket.
Presentation of the award will be a part of the annual Power of the Purse event on Oct. 16 at the Hyannisport Club, hosted by Women United, an affiliate group of the Cape and Islands United Way. The award recognizes and celebrates women who are making a difference working in the nonprofit sector.
“Anyone who knows Chris knows what a powerhouse she is and how passionate she feels about making sure no one goes hungry,” said Mark Skala, President and CEO of the Cape and Islands United Way. “She embodies everything this award stands for – caring for the community, an unwavering spirit to help others, and a desire to help our community be more resilient.”
Menard has been with the Family Pantry of Cape Cod for almost nine years and in that time it has seen unprecedented growth due to the demands in our community. The Family Pantry is the largest pantry on the Cape and the only pantry that serves the entire Cape. The Family Pantry has over 9,200 clients across the Cape with a satellite pantry at Cape Cod Community College and the Healthy Meals in Motion mobile pantry serving the Lower Cape.
“I am so humbled and honored to receive the Community Spirit award at this year's Power of the Purse event,” Menard noted. “The partnership The Family Pantry of Cape Cod has with the Cape and Islands United Way is invaluable to our community. Thank you for this wonderful award and for recognizing the work we do.”
Prior to joining the Family Pantry, Menard worked as director of business services for Staples and spent almost 20 years with Stop & Shop in various management roles.
