We continue to share stories of how your support makes a difference in our community. Today’s thank you highlights two educational organizations with programs that are funded by donors like you.
Cape Cod Children’s Place
The mission: To build resiliency and strength in Cape Cod families, through providing resources, referrals, high quality early childhood education, advocacy and support.
Located in Eastham, Cape Cod Children’s Place assists 1,000 families a year. They do this in many ways, and are wonderfully adept at turning some of the geographic challenges of the Lower Cape into fun and innovative programs for children and families. This includes their “Red Van Road Show”, which includes parent education workshops, complete with dinner and childcare. Another successful program is the creation and distribution of a parenting DVD, given out free at doctor visits.
Wraparound services for children with disabilities is a vital need and when state funding was removed, your donations allowed this care to continue, through additional staffing at Children’s Place child care center.
Boys & Girls Club of Cape Cod
The mission: To provide a safe place to inspire and enable all young people on Cape Cod to realize their full potential as productive, responsible and caring citizens.
At the other end of the Cape in Mashpee, The Boys and Girls Club provides opportunities for children and teens, ages 6-18, to learn and grow. Serving 1,470 children, the Club provides before and after school and vacation care, Friday teen nights and summer camp. Funding from the Cape and Islands United Way supports the education program, which implements a myriad of offerings, including STEM, sports, homework help with a certified teacher, arts, health and fitness, drug and alcoholism resistance programs, career and college prep programs and many more.
The statistics around changes in Club members’ behavior is nothing less than incredible. 90% of members abstain from vaping, and 97% abstain from drinking.
