The Cape and Islands United Way (CIUW) has received a transformational $100,000 grant from the Vela Foundation of Osterville, one of the largest gifts awarded by the Foundation to date. This significant investment will support CIUW’s ongoing efforts to improve lives and strengthen communities across Cape Cod, Martha’s Vineyard, and Nantucket.
The grant comes at a time of growing need across the region, where many individuals and families continue to face challenges related to housing, food insecurity, and access to essential services. CIUW works year-round to address these issues by funding local programs, convening community partners, and advancing initiatives that create lasting impact.
“I’m so glad the recent gift from our foundation will support the important work of the Cape and Islands United Way,” said Bernadette Rehnert Haynes of the Vela Foundation. “We hope this contribution inspires others in the community to get involved and invest in the work of the organization.”
In 2025, the Cape and Islands United Way had a record year, investing more than $850,000 into programs and services that directly support neighbors in need across the region. The Vela Foundation’s gift will help expand that impact even further in 2026.
“This is a transformational gift, and we are so grateful for the generosity and support of the Vela Foundation,” said Mark Skala, President and CEO of the Cape and Islands United Way. “With this incredible investment, we will be able to deepen our reach and continue to respond to the most pressing needs in our community.”
