At the January meeting of the Cape and Islands Board of Directors, David B. Smith, CFA, was elected as newest board member.
Smith, a resident of Falmouth, is Managing Director and Chief Investment Officer at Rockland Trust and replaces longtime board member Brian Griffin, also with Rockland. CIUW board chair Christine Eosco noted Rockland Trust’s longtime commitment to the organization.
“We are thrilled to have David’s insights and expertise on our board and we are so grateful to Brian Griffin, who worked tirelessly and effectively for many years on behalf of the Cape and Islands United Way,” Eosco said.
At Rockland, Smith oversees and manages the Investment Management Group. In this capacity, he is involved in performing research and setting investment policy, as well as managing client portfolios.
Prior to joining Rockland Trust, Smith was a founding partner, Senior Vice President and Senior Portfolio Manager at Mellon Growth Advisors (MGA), a subsidiary of Mellon Financial Corporation. He also held positions at State Street Global Advisors (SSgA) and the Tuckerman Group, a real estate subsidiary of SSgA. He holds a BA in Economics from the University of Massachusetts/Amherst and a MS in Finance from the Sawyer School of Management at Suffolk University.
Smith serves on the Advisory Board for the Finance Programs at the Sawyer School of Management at Suffolk University, the South Shore Chamber Investment Committee, and the Finance Committee of the Archdiocese of Fall River. He also volunteers for the Finance Committee at Nativity Preparatory School of Boston.
